It certainly wasn’t business as usual in 2020. What a tragic year! Sadly, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to disrupt our society, the lives of our fellow South Africans and business in general. At the time of writing, South Africa was reaching a death rate of 22 000 with detected COVID-19 cases close to 800 000 people. This is a catastrophe.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to those that have lost family, friends and colleagues. During the course of the year, some five million COVID-19 tests were conducted in South Africa and recoveries of nearly 733 000 have been achieved to date, which equates to a recovery rate of 90%. This is impressive. Our healthcare providers and frontline workers, and our government, should be commended for this achievement.
